The Uninhabitable Earth - David Wallace Wells
Penguin Book cover submission
My book cover submission for 'The Uninhabitable Earth' depicts the existential threat of climate change and the 'uninhabitable' earth as a place which is not too far away from our reality.

My design was inspired by the fear and existential threat of nuclear warfare during the Cold War. In 'The Uninhabitable Earth', Wallace-Wells compares the horrors of climate change to this very notion.

I took inspiration from post-modernism 'greetings from' postcard design and cold-war propaganda, portraying the horrific depiction of the earth as the destination we are due to arrive in, imminently.

The stamps used are symbolic of the chapter headings, 'Elements of chaos', and reference subject matter taken from the book itself.
